Route to the finals
Two losses in the Second Round of qualifying saw Ghana progress to the next round only on superior goal difference.

They went on to show their class in the Third Round, however, where four wins in their first four games secured qualification with two games remaining.

Manager
Milovan Rajevac took over at the helm of the Black Stars in 2008, after a relatively low-profile domestic managerial career in his native Serbia.

He has, however, equipped himself well at international level. After securing World Cup qualification he took his charges to the African Cup of Nations in Angola where they reached the Final after good victories over the hosts and hotly tipped Nigeria.

They fell at the final hurdle, losing 1-0 to Egypt, but had demonstrated their capabilities well.

Player watch
Ghana’s main threat comes from their midfield, with Chelsea’s Michael Essien, Inter’s Sulley Muntari and Bologna’s Stephen Appiah all equally adept in defence or attack.

The three have enjoyed mixed fortunes this season, however.

While Muntari has enjoyed helping Inter to a Champions League Final and a second consecutive Serie A title, Essien has missed a large part of Chelsea’s recent double-winning campaign and, despite being named in the Black Stars’ 30-man provisional squad, could be a doubt for the World Cup finals.
