Route to the finals
The Indomitable Lions breezed through their initial qualifying group in the Second Round of the African zone and progressed to face Gabon, Morocco and Togo in the Third Round.

Despite losing their opening game to Togo 1-0 they bounced back with four victories in their next five games. It was enough to secure them top spot once again and set them on course for their sixth World Cup finals.

Manager
Frenchman Paul Le Guen took over the management role of Cameroon when Germany’s Otto Pfister was sacked, following the disappointing start to their Third Round qualifying campaign.

The loss to Togo and draw with Morocco proved to be the tipping point for Cameroon’s FA and Le Guen was called in.

With his appointment came a change in fortunes for the Indomitable Lions and four consecutive victories guaranteed them a berth in the World Cup finals.

A quarter-final exit in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year means Le Guen will be hopeful his charges can this time take full advantage of home continent advantage.

Player watch
Inter’s Samuel Eto’o was handed the captaincy of the national team when Paul Le Guen took over as manager. Not only did it provide the catalyst to get Cameroon back to winning ways but it also provided Eto’o with even greater impetus.

He ended World Cup qualifying with nine goals, the second most of any player in African qualifying and he is sure to be buoyed even further by a recent Serie A title and Champions League Final appearance.
