Left-back Ashley Cole achieved some significant milestones for both club and country in 2010.
In the blue of Chelsea, Cole won a Premier League and FA Cup double – making him the first player to pick up six FA Cup winners’ medals in the history of the competition. While for England he equalled the long-standing record set by Kenny Sansom for the most appearances for a full-back.
It is almost ten years since London-born Cole first pulled on the Three Lions but having only recently turned 30 he is still at the peak of his powers and once again showed his class as he played in all four of England’s World Cup fixtures in South Africa.
Recognised as one of the finest attacking defenders in the world, Cole remains an England stalwart. He was once again on international duty as Fabio Capello's men embarked on their 2012 European Championship Qualifying campaign, starting in the victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland, and reached his momentous appearance milestone, of 86 caps, against Montenegro at Wembley.
