Fabio Capello insists he wants to remain as England Manager.

The Three Lions were knocked out of the World Cup on Sunday after losing their last 16 clash with Germany 4-1 in Bloemfontein.

Capello confirmed that he spoke with Club England Chairman Sir Dave Richards on Monday morning, with the Italian's future to be resolved at a meeting in two weeks' time.

But the 64-year-old is adamant he wants to honour his contract, which runs until after the 2012 European Championships.

"I want to stay, absolutely," said Capello. "I spoke this morning with Sir Dave Richards, and he told me that we have to meet in two weeks' time to decide.

"I think that is an intelligent answer. I have refused a lot of opportunities from important clubs because I would like to stay here. I like this job, and I like being England Manager.

"I have to make changes, and we spoke about this. I spoke with Sir Dave about the younger players that we can play in the next qualification (campaign), and I know what I have to do."

And Capello admitted he was disappointed after England's World Cup exit.

He added: "The players trained well, were focussed every time, but we did not have the performance levels that I wanted.

"But the players were fine to deal with. They tried to do everything the best at that moment."

What Do You Think?

  • Firstly, i would like to congratulate the FA for not rushing into a decision on Fabio Capello future as Englands manager, i personally believe that Capello should be given a chance to try and get England to the Euro finals. Secondly, if the reports in todays papers are correct and there was friction between some (big names)players in the dressing room then it would at least shed some light as to why the England players were so dreadful on the pitch. I believe it is time to start looking at players who don't have such big egos and reputations and look at players who would be able to tackle for the ball and not be afraid to get hurt, players who would have been ashamed to come back to England rather than players who obviously didn't care if England won or lost. On a final note maybe it's best the FA slap a no writing for any newspapers ban on players during any future tournements because quiet frankly they should be concentrating on football and not writing and anyway the players are always wrong.By anonymous (22 months ago)
  • Capello needs to be kept, he will learn from his mistakes and we need a steady period under one manager. It takes time to build good teams, yes it was a poor world cup for England but at least we lasted longer than France or Italy. Remember we didn't even qualify for Euro 2008 so at least we have some improvement. By Mikeeboss (22 months ago)
  • It would be the biggest blow for the national team if Fabio is sacked. The tactics and formation were perfect. The players just didnt perform. There is no golden generation in football. The only thing the team was missing was a heart. Fabio knows very well how to give that to the team. I would suggest that his contract is extended to the next world cup as he is a stubborn person and hates to miss targets. 2010 WC was a trial for him and now he knows what needs to be done. Well done Fabio keep it up. ENGLAND FOREVER !!!!By MALTESE FANATIC (22 months ago)
  • Now, Premier League club really rely on the foreign players, especially the rich club. This will bring down the OTHERS England players talent and performance. The average age for England players in World Cup this time is 30 and with a well salary on his club. HOW players to get the fight spirit? It's the time FA need to control the number of foreign players in Premier League. I suggest every club need min 3 England players in a match. To get more young England players play on the Premier League and international tournament. By Teik Chun (22 months ago)
  • Do not sack Fabio. He is a top top manager; and all the better now he has International tournament experience with England. Let's get the benefit of that experience and keep him on, at least for Euro 2012. But on the other hand, these 'golden generation' players have consistently underperformed on the big stages and consistently buckled under pressure. They have proved time and again that they cannot play as a team, and have had every opportunity, under every type of manager we could find. Drop the senior players (you all know who I mean) and keep the manager. An Italian man, who looked about ten times more upset on Sunday than most of the players did.By Lukas (22 months ago)
