England Manager Fabio Capello underlined the importance of success that motivates his every move and decision.

Speaking in an interview with the Telegraph Magazine, published today, Capello revealed what many will already have guessed - winning is more important than popularity.

When asked if he wants the players to like him, Capello responded: "I think the players understand the value of the manager.

"For some players, if they play every game, you are popular, you are good. When some players don't play all the games, always on the bench, you are not popular.

"One Italian manager told me this, 'Boss, I can speak with you?' one player said to him. 'I am training every day very good, my life is perfect with my wife, I eat good. Sometime I stay on the bench, sometimes the stand. Why?' 'You want to know why?' 'Tell me.' 'Because I want to win.'

"All managers want to win," Capello concludes.

One of the key frustrations he feels as a manager is when his players fail to perform as well as they can.

Capello admits: "This for me is no good. Sometimes you don't understand why. All the managers, this is one of the terrible things about this job: 'Why? Why?'

"Every day you can learn something different. This is very important."
