  • Pauleta, Portugal, World Cup

Pauleta becomes Portugal's all-time top scorer.

Centre-forward Pauleta was involved with the Portugal national team for the best part of a decade, clocking up 88 appearances between 1997 and 2006.

During that time he competed in two World Cups and overtook the legendary Eusebio as his country’s all-time top scorer, with 47 goals.

Despite this accolade, Pauleta was never particularly prolific in tournament football. His highlight came when he bagged a hat-trick in a 2002 Group game against Poland but he managed only one other World Cup goal in his career, against Angola at Germany 2006.
