The eccentric stopper made 87 appearances for France, picking up a World Cup winners’ medal in 1998 and the 2000 European Championship.

Recognised as one of the best in the business, he shares the record for the most clean sheets at the World Cup with England’s Peter Shilton, both going unbreached 10 times during their respective careers.

He was also presented with the Lev Yashin Award for his efforts at France ’98.
