  • Ubaldo Fillol

Ubaldo Fillol proves you don't always have to be No.1.

He may not have worn the No.1 jersey but Argentina’s Ubaldo Fillol was certainly his country’s first choice goalkeeper when they won their first World Cup in 1978.

Fillol, who played 58 times for the national team, actually wore the number five shirt throughout the tournament as Argentina’s squad numbers at that time were decided alphabetically.

He appeared again in the ’82 Finals, this time wearing number seven. But it did not prove lucky, as Argentina were knocked out in the Second Round.
