  • Fernando Hierro

Spain's Fernando Hierro makes a hat-trick of World Cup appearances.

Fernando Hierro is Spain’s fourth most capped player of all time, with 89 appearances and 29 goals to his name.

His goal tally makes him his country’s third leading scorer, behind Raul (44) and David Villa (36), an incredible effort considering Hierro played the majority of his games at centre-back or as a defensive midfielder.

The former Spain captain played at three World Cups – USA ’94, France ’98 and Japan/Korea ’02 – playing in 10 matches, scoring five goals and being selected for the FIFA All-Star team in his final appearance.
