The Liverpool midfielder still hasn't suffered defeat as an England player after another colossal performance for the Three Lions.
Causing numerous problems to the Turks, they just couldn't handle the 23-year old and his powerful work tempted Tugay into the challenge for the penalty...
LION OF THE WEEKEND - STEVEN GERRARD
"Never stopped running from first whistle to last" - News of the World
"Ran with menace at the Turkey defence and won the penalty from a befuddled Tugay" - BBC
Steven Gerrard extended his England career to 21 games unbeaten as he helped earn the vital point that clinched Group 7 victory and Qualification to Euro 2004.
And in this form it's not surprising that the Liverpool midfielder is yet to suffer defeat in a Three Lions shirt. He was the driving force behind England, his non-stop running gave another option going forward and he never batted an eye-lid in the cauldron of the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
A constant threat to the Turkish rearguard in an unfamiliar role on the left-hand side of the midfield diamond, Gerrard highlighted his value to the side as an extremely versatile and confident all-round footballer.
The strength in the tackle with his usual dead-eye passing accuracy is almost a given with the 23-year old, but he also displayed his ability as a dribbler of the ball and it was his strong run - similar Michael Owen's against Argentina in Japan last year - that dazzled the Turks. Tugay could only throw out a foot to halt the number 4 inside the box, and an identical judgement was made. Pierluigi Collina pointed to the spot.
