First Half
Both national anthems - with exactly the same tune - were wonderfully well observed and we're ready for kick-off...
': The first action of the match sees Mario Frick weave his way past David Beckham only to shoot high and wide of James' goal.
': The referee blows for a foul by James Beattie on Ritter.
': Wayne Rooney tries an audacious shot from the right edge of the area - Jehle gets back to save on his line.
': Frank Lampard tries his luck from 22 yards - Jehle saves but England look hungry for goals.
': Gerster cuts out a Beckham cross-field pass as Liechtenstein reorganise after a period of pressure from England.
': Owen cuts into the area down the inside-left channel, shoots but sees his effort blocked. Rooney follows up with a looping header which Jehle tips over.
': Liechtenstein mounbt an impressive counter-attack which, after a deflection off an English boot, ends with Burgmeier's wild right-footed volley.
': Rooney and Beckham try a one-two on the right touch-line only for a well-timed foot to intercept.
': After a cross into the box is cleared, Rooney tries a thumping volley from the edge of the box... it flies narrowly over.
': Gerrard charges down the right but his cross, though clearing Jehle's outstretched hands, goes over Owen as well.
': Gary Neville's throw-in is headed on by Rooney but it doesn't quite find the awaiting English players. Liechtenstein clear.
': Beckham and Neville work a corner, the cross from which finds Beattie, whose header is saved by Jehle.
': Rooney's pinged cross from the right evades Owen and Beattie but Beckham slides in at the far post to connect well. His effort hits the crossbar but the linesman gives offside anyway.
': Jehle comfortably catches Beckham's 35-yard free-kick.
': Bridge and Lampard start an attack deep on the left-hand side before moving the ball onwards through Rooney and Neville.
' Liechtenstein booking
Martin Stocklasa's name goes down in referee Walter Hormann's book.
': Neville crosses from the right but Beattie's header can't find the target.
': England enjoy some midfield possession as they try to break down a stubborn Liechtenstein defence.
': Michael Owen is put through by Rooney's measured pass but is given offside.
': Beckham's ball into the box hangs in the air and Jehle and Beattie go up for it. The keeper falls to the ground but the ref allows play to go on... the ball falls for Owen, but the Liverpool hit-man skews the ball narrowly wide of the gaping goal - what a chance!
' Liechtenstein booking
After having had such a good game, it's a shame Jehle's booked after falling to the ground under Beattie's challenge.
': Beckham beats his man inside the box and delivers a low cross towards Owen. Jehle finds it easy to cut out.
': A nifty ball is played through to Owen but ricochets into the pathod Rooney, whose shot is too close to Jehle. The keeper saves yet again.
': Jehle's at it again as he claims yet another cross from the left - the man is playing out of his skin.
': Beckham's cross is flicked on by Beattie and Rooney tries an ambitious over-head kick, which sails over the bar.
': Neville and Beckham do well to create an overlap and the defender's cross from the byline is good but goes behind the poaching strikers.
': Beckham gets behind the Liechtenstein defence once more, delievers a delicious cross to the back post where Beattie chests it down and crashes a powerful shot straight onto the crossbar... the ball bounces to safety.
': Another effort from the big Saints forward is saved by Jehle falling to his right.
': Lampard tries to thread a clever ball through but it runs out of play.
': Owen falls under a challene on the edge of the area but the referee shakes his head.
