The FA are delighted to confirm that this year’s Four Nations Tournament will take place at Eastbourne Borough FC, Worthing FC and Bognor Regis Town FC between 23-27 May.
The tournament in its current guise was re-established in 2002 by The FA and England are the reigning holders, having won all three games in the Republic of Ireland last May.
England are unbeaten in their last eight games under Manager Paul Fairclough, and the former Stevenage Borough boss is excited about the selection dilemma’s awaiting him.
“The Four Nations is a fantastic tournament as I have the opportunity to select the very best players from outside of The Football League.
“Last year DJ Campbell was in my squad whilst he was at Yeading, and in the last twelve months he has moved first to Brentford, and then to Birmingham City in the Premier League.
“There is a huge amount of talent in Non-League at present, and I’d like to think that my squad will contain a mixture of promising young talent, and some experienced heads. One thing is for certain though; there isn’t a bigger honour in the game than being asked to represent your country.”
All three England games will be played at Eastbourne Borough Football Club, capping a meteoric rise for the club who just 23 years ago were founding members of the Sussex County League Division 3, as Langney Sports.
“Being asked to host these games is a prestigious honour for us as a club and reward for all the people who have done so much over the last eight years” said club Chief Executive Mike Spooner.
“Ten years ago we had one covered area for spectators and a grassy bank behind one goal. This season we hosted nearly 4,000 fans for an FA Cup tie against Oxford United, and to now play host to international football marks a whirlwind period, which should serve as an inspiration for any aspiring club with dreams of their own.”
The County of Sussex has over 1,000 clubs and sees an estimated 37,000 players involved in the game each weekend.
Sussex FA Chairman and FA Representative Matches Committee Chairman Peter Bentley is proud to be involved in bringing international football to his home county.
“The tournament takes place at the end of the league season and falls perfectly before the start of the World Cup, when football fever will be at its peak.
“It would be great to think that we’ll see big crowds at all the games, including those at Worthing and Bognor Regis Town, with the final round of games staggered to enable supporters over the Bank Holiday weekend to get to both games and create a carnival atmosphere.”
