The Football Association are celebrating England’s very last home match of the decade by making the U19 friendly against Turkey at Scunthorpe United on 17 November free.
The match tops off a great year for England at all levels, with the Seniors qualifying for the World Cup and both the Under-21s and Women finishing as runners up at the European Championships.
England U19 Women went one better by winning their European Championship tournament in Belarus.
It's been a decent few months for the U19 men as well, having finished as runners-up at the European Championship Finals in Ukraine this summer, before winning all three of their Euro 2010 qualifiers at a mini tournament in Slovenia last month.
And Head Coach, Noel Blake, believes that the Scunthorpe public are in for an exciting game when his England side step out at Glanford Park next month: “These lads are proud to wear the shirt and play for the badge and that’s what you want from your young players.
“They’ve got a great attitude both on and off the pitch and we look to play fast ,attacking football with a bit of flair,” said Blake, who made his name as a player at Birmingham City, Leeds United and Portsmouth.
Turkey will be a stiff test for Blake’s young charges with the two teams having fought out a 1-1 draw as U17s two years ago: “Turkey has a good track record for developing youth players so it will be a decent test for us. We know they’ll be athletic and skilful so that’s something we have to match.
“We’ve played the likes of Spain, Holland, Germany and the Czech Republic over the last twelve to 18 months so this will be another big challenge for our young players.
“The game at U17 level was hard fought and Turkey were on top for large portions of that game but we finished with a draw so that’s something to build on for this friendly.”
