Watch England train

England v Germany
International Friendly
8pm, Wednesday 22 August 2007
Wembley Stadium

England's players were on the training pitch today for their first session of the new season as Steve McClaren prepares his side for the friendly against Germany on Wednesday.

McClaren was able to welcome 26 of the 28 players originally named in the squad, with Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Tottenham's Darren Bent both remaining at home.

Gerrard will rest his broken toe while Bent picked up a thigh strain in his club's 4-0 win over Derby on Saturday.

The England medical staff have liaised with both Liverpool and Spurs and were able to look at scans of the players' injuries, which revealed that neither will be fit for Wednesday night.

All players who did report to the team hotel travelled to the Arsenal training ground at London Colney for Monday afternoon's session.

While the majority of the team took part in full training, the eight players who were involved in action on Sunday, as well as David Beckham had a lighter, recovery session.

Sol Campbell also took part in a light session, however both he and Owen Hargreaves have had injuries assessed and will not be ready for Wednesday's game at Wembley.
