England 0-1 Spain FT

England 0-1 Spain
International Friendly
8pm, Wednesday 7 February 2007
Old Trafford, Manchester

90+2'  It's full-time at Old Trafford.

90+1'  Crouch tries a spectacular volley which ends up rolling to Casillas - it looks England's last chance.

88'  It's beginning to look desperate for England as the clock ticks towards the final whistle.

86'  Downing crosses to Richards at the back post but Dyer fails to make the most of the City defender's knock down.

83'  Crouch's flick-on does not fall kindly for Defoe as Spain's defenders thrash the ball clear.

79'  Barton makes some useful touches early on, helping to release Richards who is thwarted by the rushing Casillas.

78'  Joey Barton makes his international bow, replacing Lampard.

74'  Downing comes on for Phil Neville while Fabregas replaces Villa.

73'  Crouch is pulled up for yet another foul, perhaps a little harshly this time for a shove on Navarro.

70'  Defoe replaces Wright-Phillips, meaning Dyer drops to midfield.

69'  Crouch ends up chewing the Old Trafford turf after being bundled over by Navarro and Puyol.

66'  Arizmendi comes on for Silva, making it five changes for Spain.

65'  Richards and Carragher come on for Gary Neville and Ferdinand.

63'  GOAL! A cross from the left lands invitingly for Iniesta 18 yards out who crashes a shot into the far corner.

59'  It's Villa again, this time shooting against Ferdinand to win his side a corner. Xavi's delivery is poor and England survive.

58'  Foster makes a decent save, diving to his right to palm away Villa's stinging drive from 25 yards.

56'  Iniesta replaces Angulo as Spain make their fourth change.

54'  Ferdinand maraudes forward from the back resulting in Barry crossing into the box, but Spain clear.

52'  Spain break quickly after winning a free-kick and after strong running from Torres, Wright-Phillips tracks back to stop their charge.

48'  Lampard looks certain to turn in Gary Neville's low cross until Pablo makes a brilliant interception. England have started well though.

47'  Wright-Phillips wins a corner after good work from Dyer, but Barry hooks his shot over.

46'  Barry for Gerrard, while Spain bring on Torres, Navarro and Angel Lopez.

46'  The second half gets underway, with Barry taking up left midfield to allow Lampard his customary central berth.

45'  The referee brings the first half to a halt.

43'  Gary Neville penalised for stealing a few yards on a throw-in - the right-back is not happy.

41'  Wright-Phillips' tenacity plays Gary Neville down the line but his cross sails over the bar like a Jonny Wilkinson conversion.

39'  England fashion their best chance with Gerrard's pass to Crouch but the striker drags his shot wide.

37'  Angulo lashes a shot wide with his left foot - Foster is at full-stretch but the effort sails well wide.

33'  Crouch is then adjudged offside to cap a poor 60 second for the leggy Liverpool striker.

32'  Lampard swings a free-kick into the Spain box but Crouch is penalised for a foul.

30'  Angulo enjoys another spell of possession on the right but the England defence cope well.

26'  England win a corner but Lampard's delivery is poor, Spain comfortably clear their lines.

25'  Wright-Phillips sparks another move which leads to Phil Neville crossing for Crouch but the lanky frontman heads wide.

23'  Dyer makes another penetrative run from the halfway line before spreading play wide to Wright-Phillips.

21'  There's an offside at either end of the park, Dyer for England and Villa for the away side.

18'  What a let-off - Angulo pulls the ball back to Morientes who blazes over from ten yards with just Foster to beat. A terrible miss.

17'  Wright-Phillips loses possession and slides in Carlos Puyol, which results in a foul to the visitors.

15'  England enjoy a short period of possession, the ball being finally lost when Gary Neville's long ball to Dyer is intercepted.

14'  Spain, having weathered an early storm, have settled down and are beginning to move the ball crisply.

13'  Foster shows few signs of a debutant's nerves, rushing off his line to confidently claim a cross before distributing quickly.

10'  David Villa shows what a danger he can be by firing into the side netting after shifting the ball on to his right foot.

9'  Angulo, sitting just deep of the forward line, delivers into the box but Ferdinand clears at the second attempt.

7'  Claudio Ranieri is in the Old Trafford crowd tonight, and Steve McClaren has been the 'Tinkerman' this week after injury problems.

6'  Foster makes his first touch as an England international, mopping up in the hosts box before getting rid.

5'  The crowd looks just short of 60,000 - the vast majority of them cheering on the home side.

4'  Dyer makes another excellent diagonal run into the Spanish box but is eventuall crowded out.

3'  Lampard and Gerrard are getting in on the act too as most of the play takes part in the Spanish half.

2'  England continue their good start with Wright-Phillips again in possession on the right.

1'  Casillas makes a double save, first from Carrick's long range drive then from Dyer, although the Newcastle man is offside.

1'  The game kicks off and England force a corner within 30 seconds after Dyer and Wright-Phillips combine down the right.
