Celebration for Banks

Legendary England goalkeeper Gordon Banks celebrates his 67th birthday today.

Banks won 73 appearances for England between 1963 and 1972 and managed to keep 35 clean sheets, only conceding 57 goals.

The Stoke City man was in goal for England's famous 1966 World Cup win, and didn't concede in that tournament until Eusebio beat him with a penalty in the semi-final.

However the most well-known moment of Banks' career is probably the remarkable save he made in England's match against Brazil in the Mexico World Cup four years later.

Flinging himself low to his right, he kept out Pele's towering header which looked certain to give the eventual champions the lead.

After a car accident in 1972, Banks' career was effectively ended, though he did play in the US for a short period of time.

In all, Banks played 23 League games for Chesterfield, 293 for Leicester City and 194 for Stoke City.
