England treat for Almaty's youngsters

Fabio Capello's players met with pupils and orphans in Almaty.

After their first training session in Kazakhstan, Fabio Capello's England players met with young orphans and children from a local school.

Children from Haileybury School, the only English school in Almaty, and the city orphanage watched the session at the Dynamo stadium on Thursday afternoon, before the squad posed for pictures and signed autographs.

England Captain John Terry said: "You don't always get the chance to see the city or the people when you travel with England, so this was a nice change.

"The kids really responded to the lads, and we were all just pleased to be able make them smile."

Ashley Cole added: "It's always important whenever we get the opportunity to meet the children and sign autographs.

"You can see the faces lighting up and it is a great feeling to be able to create that excitement."

Haileybury School is the only English school in Central Asia.

The 2010 World Cup Group 6 Qualifier kicks off at 9.00pm local time, which is 4.00pm BST and will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports 1
