Dell names Algarve squad

England will play the hosts Portugal as well as Hungary and Belgium in a group tournament designed to assist Portugal prepare for the FIFA Futsal World Championship Finals in Chinese Taipei during November.

Dell has retained most of the group who played Belgium earlier in the year at Bath and added some new names to the travelling party.

In announcing the squad he said: "We are delighted to have been invited by the Portuguese, they have been very helpful in the past 12 months in assisting our development in this exciting game and this will be very much an educational trip for us.

"This tournament presents us with some very challenging games as our opponents are all ranked in the Top 20 in the world, whilst we are ranked in the low 70s but our education in Futsal will be richer for playing them.

"Despite losing both fixtures against Belgium earlier in the year the progress we demonstrated was encouraging and it’s right that the core of that squad deserve another opportunity to build on their work so far.

"These forthcoming matches will be equally as demanding and whilst results are not important at this stage of our development, improving our understanding of the tactics and flexibility in our game is and that will be our objective over the five days."

Futsal is FIFA’s official version of five-a-side football and is played professionally throughout parts of the world, including Portugal.

"Many of the world's top players have grown up playing Futsal including Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, and Luis Figo.

"The need for exceptional skills and fitness levels linked with a sound tactical understanding of the small-sided game are largely acclaimed as the key contributors to the development of so many young footballers on the continent."
