Cerebral Palsy International Friendly Tournament
England, Finland and Holland,
Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Shropshire
15 March - 18 March 2007
England Cerebral Palsy Team Coach Paul Harrison has named a 14 man squad ahead of next week's friendlies against Finland and Holland.
The Three Lions will play the double header at Lilleshall, with England due to kick-off against Finland at 2pm on Friday 16 March before facing the Dutch two days later, with 11am the scheduled start.
Harrison expects a stiff examination, particularly from Holland, as he prepares for the World Cup, which takes place in Brazil in November.
"Holland are one of the best teams in Europe," said Harrison. "It's a real opportunity for us to test ourselves. It's good experience for the younger members of the squad, but also for the older ones who have not been with us for over a year."
Harrison has fond memories of the last time England met Finland.
"We beat them 2-0 in the Euros and hit the woodwork four times," he recalled. "We had 32 scoring chances."
Harrison had initially named 15 players but Andy Taylor has since pulled out meaning a new player will be summoned. Gary Davies should skipper the side.
Harrison sees the Finland clash as an ideal opportunity to try some new players. "It's a great chance to see what they can do.
"Obviously I'd like to win the tournament, but the development is the key," he added.
"This is the first stage in the journey which will take us to Brazil. It also gives the squad I have selected the chance to push for a spot for May's tournament in Holland. I can only take 12 players."
