Bobby started with Bristol Rovers but made his name with Brighton & Hove Albion.
He originally joined the South Coast club on loan, scoring six goals in six League matches before signing for them permanently. After 70 goals in three seasons for the Seagulls, and six appearances for England Under-21s, he moved to top-flight Tottenham Hotspur.
He struggled to find his form at White Hart Lane, failing to find the net in 16 Premier League matches, and switched to West Ham United, the club he had supported as a boy, in a deal that took Jermain Defoe in the opposite direction.
He had four complete seasons with the Hammers, scoring eleven Premier League goals in one of them, and then signed for Fulham in July 2008 for a £6.3m fee that also included Ghanaian international defender John Pantsil.
His all-round play was impressive as Roy Hodgson’s side made it through to the 2010 Europa League Final in Hamburg and Fabio Capello chose him for his first post-World Cup squad three months later.
