Biography

Against Croatia in March 2012, Rachel Unitt became just the sixth player in history to earn 100 caps for the England Women’s team, and she marked the landmark occasion with a goal.

Wearing the captain’s armband in the Euro 2013 qualifier in Vrbovec, Unitt popped up unmarked at the back post to head home Karen Carney’s 18th-minute cross and put England 3-0 up in an eventual 6-0 rout.

Unitt made her senior team debut as a substitute against France in August 2000 – the same day that fellow defender Casey Stoney also made her England bow. Unitt has gone on to serve her country with distinction ever since, making the left-back slot her own in recent seasons.

She scored her first goal against Holland in 2004 and notched two more in her home town of Walsall during a 4-1 win over Czech Republic.

Unitt has twice been voted England’s ‘Player of the Year’ and has been to four major tournaments.
