The Everton defender enjoyed a whirlwind campaign in 2012-13 after impressing for hometown club Barnsley, making his England debut and then securing a transfer to Goodison Park.
A natural right-back who can also feature in central defence or midfield, Stones is a product of Barnsley's academy and made his debut for the Tykes in the Championship in March 2012 before going on to catch the eye with his performances.
His first call-up for England came later that year when Noel Blake named him in the U19s squad to play Germany in Hamburg in September. The match ended in defeat, but Stones' performance was enough to cement him in Blake's plans.
That was a view shared by David Moyes in January 2013, as he signed him for Everton from Barnsley and just a few months later Stones was selected by Peter Taylor for the U20s World Cup in Turkey.
