Jason is a 6’2” goalkeeper who came through the youth ranks at Middlesbrough and broke into the First Team at the start of the 2010-11 season.
The highly rated stopper has represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level and has enjoyed notable success during his fledgling international career.
He played an integral role in the U17s side that progressed to the Final of the European Championship in 2007, only to be narrowly beaten by Spain 1-0 in the showpiece match, and just a few months later was part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Korea.
Still only 17, he was then part of the U19s squad that reached the European Finals in Czech Republic in 2008.
Jason drew on those experiences to captain the U19s the following season, as the Young Lions qualified for the Euros once again and this time progressed all the way to the Final.
Although they were beaten by the hosts Ukraine, their performances guaranteed them a place at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt, where Steele was again part of the squad but did not play.
Steele made an unfortunate debut for the Under-21s, receiving a red-card for a foul just 13 minutes after coming on against Germany in the November 2010 friendly defeat in Wiesbaden.
