Michael, a stylish 6’ defender, is one of England’s most experienced players at Under-21 level. He has completed four seasons as a Chelsea player, but has only appeared in four Premier League games for the Blues, having spent most of the time on loan at QPR and Wolves.
Michael’s international career started with the U16s in 2003, playing against Israel during the Ballymena Tournament alongside Fabrice Muamba. His Under-21 debut came in a friendly against Romania in Bristol on 21 August 2007 and he was named in Fabio Capello’s senior squad for the Germany game in 2008.
In June 2011 he signed for Bundesliga club Hamburg SV.
