Cyril Knowles was capped four times for England, twice at right-back and twice at left-back.

Terry Cooper, the long-legged Knowles had started on the left wing before switching to defence at Middlesbrough, his first professional club.
A £42,500 fee took him to Tottenham when he was still only 19 and he went on to become something of a Spurs legend, winning The FA Cup, the League Cup (twice) and the Fairs Cup.
The player who inspired a pop record, ‘Nice one, Cyril’ by Cockerel Chorus, retired through injury and subsequently had coaching and managerial positions at Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Torquay and Hartlepool, while his brother Peter played for Wolves and England Under-23s.
Cyril passed away when he was just 47.
