Biography

The Aston Villa youngster has certainly picked up plenty of international experience in his career so far, after first breaking through into the U16 squad whilst a year young in 2007.

He then went on to the U17 squad and featured in the European Championship Finals in May 2009 under John Peacock, where he impressed in a deep lying midfield role.

After following his older brother Craig through the Academy ranks at Villa Park, Gardner then sampled life in a World Cup as he was the youngest member of Brian Eastick's U20 squad which travelled to Egypt in October 2009.

He then made his U19 bow in November 2009 when he came on as a substitute against Turkey at Glanford Park in Scunthorpe and capped that occasion off with a goal in a 3-1 win.

Unfortunately, Gary's progress was halted soon after that as he suffered a long term knee injury whilst playing for Villa. After battling back to fitness, he returned to England duty in March 2011 when he was picked for the U19 squad to face Holland.
