Matthias Fanimo

Matthias Fanimo

Matthias enjoyed two seasons as an England U16 international, making his debut aged just 14. He came on as a substitute against Scotland at Sincil Bank in December 2008.

The following season Kenny Swain handed him the captain’s armband in the opening Victory Shield encounter against Wales and Matthias scored his first England goal against Northern Ireland three weeks later, latching on to Raheem Sterling’s through ball in injury time before coolly finding the bottom corner to complete a 2-0 win. His final goal as an U16 came against Japan in the Montaigu Tournament in April 2010.

The West Ham man had predominantly been deployed wide on the right until Academy manger Paul Hilton moved him to the front line at the beginning of season 2009-10 and he has flourished ever since.
