It’s billed as the M69 derby when Coventry City and Leicester City meet at senior level and that tag could well apply on Wednesday night when the two clubs meet in The FA Youth Cup.
The young Foxes make the short trip to the Ricoh Arena for the Third Round Proper clash in fine form too, remaining unbeaten this season and topping their Premier Academy League table.
They have already beaten Coventry once this season, when they notched up a 3-0 victory in the league, but Leicester’s Academy manager Jon Rudkin knows it will be a different scenario on Wednesday night, with a Championship stadium and bigger crowd to contend with.
"It takes us away from the league programme and it is good for the lads to play at such a stadium,” said Rudkin.
"Obviously this is a different type of game which has to be decided on the night and the experience is certainly of great benefit.”
Leicester have produced a number of players through their youth system in recent years and with the club now seemingly on an upward spiral, it is hoped that more will make the progression from Academy to senior level and The FA Youth Cup provides a platform for all involved to stake their claim.
"Our squad will be similar to that for our Saturday morning games,” added Rudkin. “A mix of first and second years and we are really looking forward to it.”
