The FA Youth Cup Final
Manchester United 0-2 Leeds United
(Old Trafford)
Leeds United 2-1 Manchester United
(Elland Road)
Leeds won 4-1 on aggregate
Manchester United were firm favourites to beat Leeds United in the 1993 FA Youth Cup Final.
Alex Ferguson had said of his young side: "I have never seen their like before".
The teams lined up like this for the first leg at Old Trafford, watched by an astonishing 30,562 fans, a larger crowd than at all but one of the weekend's Premiership matches:
Manchester United: Whitmarsh, O'Kane, Riley, Casper, Neville, Gillespie, Butt, Beckham, Irving, Scholes, Thornley.
Leeds United: Pettinger, Couzens, Sharp, Tinkler, Daly, Bowman, Smithard, Ford, Whelan, Oliver, Forrester.
Leeds surprised the favourites by taking a 17th-minute lead in that first leg, Jamie Forrester running the ball in after Mark Tinkler had touched on Matthew Smithard's corner.
It was Forrester's tenth goal out of 23 scored by Leeds in that season's FA Youth Cup campaign, and when striking partner Noel Whelan made it 2-0 on 62 minutes, the Yorkshire side were home and dry.
In the second leg at Elland Road three days later, with a colossal 31,037 present, Forrester put Leeds ahead on 12 minutes. Tinkler sent in a free-kick and the FA National School product netted with a spectacular overhead kick that flew past the stranded Whitmarsh.
United were given a glimmer of hope on the half-hour, Paul Scholes equalising at 1-1 on the night with a penalty after Tinkler had fouled Keith Gillespie.
But Leeds, with Forrester influential throughout, went on to clinch the trophy with Smithard's effort a minute or two later.
