Newcastle United are just two games away from their first FA Youth Cup Final since 1985 after a dramatic extra-time win over Queens Park Rangers last night.

The away side made it hard work for Newcastle when Ben Brown converted a Bradley Simmons free-kick after 24 minutes. However, the Magpies kept pushing forward and won the game with a late equaliser from an Adam Campbell penalty, before an extra-time header from JJ Hooper.

Premier Academy side Newcastle understandably dominated the early exchanges of the game. But Rangers were still playing with confidence and their efforts were rewarded with the opening goal.

Poor defending from the home side allowed Simmons' looping free-kick find defender Brown all on his own to tuck away a simple finish.

As the game moved into its final stages it looked as though underdogs Rangers would come out unlikey winners. But the away side couldn't hold on to their lead and conceded in the 83rd minute.

Marcus Maddison was adjudged to have been brought down by Jordan Walker in the box and England U17 striker Campbell made no mistake from the spot, forcing the game to extra-time.

Both sides were starting to tire in extra-time but the game was still level after some fantastic saves from Rangers goalkeeper Gareth Deane.

Late on in the first period of extra-time, Newcastle's pressure finally paid off when a pin-point cross from Will Turton was headed home by substitute Hooper to see the home side through to the Quarter Finals.

Newcastle United will have another home tie against Blackburn Rovers in the last eight.
