Barnet began their defence of The FA Women’s Premier League Cup with an impressive 3-0 win at Tottenham.

Former England midfielder Dani Murphy scored the opening goal just after the half-hour mark in the first-round group game.

The star performer for Barnet was Cheryl Williams and she capped a fine performance with two second half goals on 52 minutes and 74 minutes.

Charlton got off to a dream start when they thrashed Brighton 6-2 with Gemma Bryan hitting a hat-trick for the south London side.

The Addicks took the lead through Ellie Bailes but Brighton quickly hit back and grabbed an equaliser through Kim Stenning on 22 minutes.

Bryan got her first goal on 62 minutes, before Jenny Newman made it three on 74 minutes. Bryan got her second of the game with a 20-yard shot on 77 minutes before completing her hat-trick with just five minutes left on the clock.

Kirsty Barton netted a 25-yard consolation goal for Brighton, but Charlton had the final say as substitute Fliss Gibbons headed in goal number six for the home side.

Nicki Watts also scored a hat-trick as Reading came away with a 3-1 win over Keynsham.

Reading had to come from behind to beat their Southern Division opponents after Suzanne Grant had put Keynsham into the lead on 55 minutes.

But Watts quickly grabbed an equaliser on 63 minutes before she hit two late goals to complete the victory.

Sunday's other League Cup ties were all between regional division teams. Portsmouth stole the show as they came away with a 7-0 win over Plymouth.
