Leeds United and Sunderland showed their National Division pedigree by each securing comprehensive victories in Group Seven.
In the only group containing two sides from the top-flight, Sunderland cruised past Leeds City Vixens with a 3-0 victory while Leeds Carnegie beat Newcastle 4-1, ending the Tynesiders' interest in the competition.
In Group One, fellow National Division side Barnet edged past West Ham 1-0 after a first-half strike from Stacey Sowden (pictured), while Colchester Ladies beat QPR 3-0.
After losing their opening two Premier League games, former Cup winners Millwall Lionesses bounced back with a 2-1 win over Charlton thanks to Emma Whitter's late goal. Elsewhere in Group Four, Kim Whitcombe's third minute goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Brighton against Gillingham.
Group Five's National Division side Nottingham Forest made it two wins from two in the competition by responding to Jo Potter's 40-yard free-kick after eight minutes with goals either side of the interval to secure a 2-1 win.
Manchester City kept their hopes of progressing from Group Five alive with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Derby County, who have now lost both of their Premier League Cup games.
Keynsham Ladies hit a last minute equaliser to secure a point in their Group Six fixture with Yeovil while Reading also left it late against Portsmouth. Two goals in the last 20 minutes were enough to snatch a 2-1 victory over Pompey who had opened the scoring after 25 minutes.
With Aston Villa's home tie against Cardiff postponed, there was only game in Group Three with Coventry holding Watford to a 1-1 draw.
