The FA Women's Premier League Cup

Cup gets underway

FA Women's Premier League Cup gets going after format change.

The FA Women’s Premier League Cup got underway at the weekend in a brand new format that sees 28 teams vying to lift the coveted trophy.

The teams are separated into seven groups of four, with at least one National Division team in each group. The four sides play each other once, before the best two teams in each group plus the two best third-placed teams advance to the last 16 where it reverts to a knock-out competition.

Getting off to a flyer in the competition were Barnet, who beat Colchester 4-0 with the assistance of a Holly Sandow hat-trick, and Blackburn who were victorious by the same margin away to Rochdale.

There were also wins for Curzon Ashton, Cardiff, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Leicester, Portsmouth, Reading and Leeds City Vixens in their opening fixtures.
