Norton & Stockton Ancients moved in to the last eight of The FA Vase with an impressive 2-0 away victory over New Mills.

Sonny Andrews was the hero for the visitors, with his two late goals proving the difference between the sides.

Derbyshire side New Mills, third in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, looked pre-match favourites for the tie against a Norton & Stockton side struggling in the Northern Football League.

But the north-east team produced one of the stand out performances of the Fifth Round Proper thanks to Andrews’ double strike.

After an even first-half of few opportunities, it was the visitors who looked more dangerous after the restart and when New Mills’ star performer Carlos Meakin was forced to withdraw injured midway through the second-half, Norton & Stockton seized the initiative.

Andrews opened the scoring in the 77th minute to give his side a hard-earned lead, and the forward settled the game with another impressive finish just two minutes later.

Norton & Stockton have now defeated Eccleshill United, West Allotment Celtic, Gulsborough Town, Rainworth MW and Bootle, as well as today’s oponents, in this season’s competition and will now fancy their chances at the quarter-final stage.
