Gary Finley is hoping for a warm reception on his return to Colwyn Bay this weekend, as his Witton Albion side face his former club in The FA Trophy Preliminary Round.

The experienced manager spent four successful years at Colwyn Bay, who are currently sat at the top of the Northern Premier League. Yet he believes his Witton side, also sat at the top of their respective league, the Northern Premier League Division One South, will make things difficult for his ex-colleagues.

"It's going to be a tough, competitive game, but one that I'm looking very forward to," he said.

During his playing days Finley reached the quarter final of The Trophy with Warrington Town, and he believes this competition means more to Witton than just the lure of the prize money. The real aim is to get the club back to Wembley and go one better than when they lost to Colchester United in The Final in 1992.

"The money is just an added bonus," Finley insisted. "We look at this game as just another game in a competition we would like to do well in.

"Anything can happen in cup competitions. If we can get a little bit of luck, there's no reason why we can't go on a good cup run. It would be fantastic for the players and the supporters, but we don't wish to get our hopes up, Wembley is a long way away."

Despite wanting to progress to the First Round of The Trophy, the talented manager is also determined to gain promotion to the Northern Premier League this season.

He added: "We were relegated last year, so our main aim this season is to get back up again."
