A trio of Conference Premier sides edged one step closer to a trip to Wembley with wins in The FA Carlsberg Trophy Third Round, as Luton, Grimsby and Newport County all advanced to the quarter finals on a very chilly Tuesday night.

Luton came through a tough away tie at Kidderminster. Jake Hughes put Town ahead after 25 minutes, but that lead was cancelled out just ten minutes later by Daniel Bradley. However, the Hatters were able to find a winner just before half-time when Stuart Fleetwood struck home minutes after missing a penalty.

Luton will face Gateshead or Alfreton Town in the next round, as they bid to repeat their Football League Trophy win in 2009 by getting to a Wembley Final.

Meanwhile, Grimsby progressed courtesy of an away win at Conference Premier strugglers Bath City, but the Mariners had to come from behind in a hard-fought match.

Exeter loanee Chris Shephard put Bath ahead just after the half-hour mark. But Town dominated the second period; the away side grabbed an equaliser through Anthony Elding on 53 minutes before finding the winner with a Rob Duffy volley ten minutes from time. Grimsby now have a home tie against York City or Ebbsfleet in the next round.

Newport had a slightly easier night's work, thumping Isthmian South side Carshalton Athletic 4-0. Goals from Sam Foley, Elliott Buchanan, Adam Chapman and Romone Rose saw the Welsh side through to the Quarter-Final where they will face Northwich Victoria or Hampton and Richmond Borough.
