Graham Westley said the Wembley pitch was 'absolutely perfect'.
Stevenage boss Graham Westley paid tribute to the Wembley pitch after watching his side overcome York City to lift The FA Trophy. The two Conference sides were the first teams to play on the new surface that was relaid two weeks ago, and Westley said it was 'absolutely perfect'. Speaking after the Trophy triumph, Westley said: "It was fantastic. I went out myself beforehand - I couldn't resist it - I put my boots on and went out there and the pitch was absolutely perfect to play on. "You have to remember that this is not Sir Alex Ferguson speaking, this is Graeme Westley speaking, and we play at Broadhall Way every other Saturday. It's Conference pitches every week so to get that surface was awesome. "I have to say that looking at the pitch the big boys played on a few weeks back, I don't think they could have had any complaints with the pitch today. It played absolutely perfect. "Credit to Wembley Stadium to have the courage to dig it up before this game, the decision was absolutely vindicated." Westley was also glad to come away from Wembley with the silverware, after being told by friends that winning was everything at the famous stadium. "It's an absolutely fabulous feeling to win," the Borough boss explained. "Obviously you don't want to come to Wembley and lose."Everyone I spoke to before today said to me 'make sure you enjoy it, and make sure you win'. I'm just delighted that we've been able to do that."
