Hazelhurst hope they can make their own piece of history this weekend, and put a stop to Hetton Lyons’ bid for the record books.

The south London outfit host the Lyons on Sunday, knowing that a win will take them to The Final at Anfield whilst also preventing Hetton from getting their chance to become the first team to win The FA Sunday Cup three times.

It is the first time that Hazelhurst have reached this stage of the competition before and as a team still closely rooted within their community, originating from a group of Wimbledon FC fans in SW17 over 20 years ago, it would represent a tremendous achievement should they see off the Durham-based team.

Under the stewardship of Paul Rockcliffe and Sam Samson, who both played for the club themselves, they will now be looking to take their success onto the national stage after winning the Morden & District Premier Title and Gordon Procter Senior Cup ‘double’ last season.

“We both enjoyed considerable success on the pitch as Hazelhurst players during the 1990s,” revealed Samson.

“Therefore, it’s an extra special buzz to be in charge of the team that we played for back in the day.

“We have an incredible opportunity to make The Final of The FA Sunday Cup and play at Liverpool’s world famous Anfield Stadium.

“We know players that have played at a high standard and some have even played in the professional game. Most of them haven’t even had a sniff of Anfield.

"It’s what every player dreams of, playing in one of the world’s most famous stadiums.”

They are under no illusions as to how tough the task will be though, with Hetton’s finance, experience and pedigree in this competition being better than most.

“In our opinion, we’ll be facing the best Sunday side in England in Hetton Lyons,” added Samson, whose team will be lining up at Sutton United’s Gander Green Lane stadium.

Video highlights of this match will be available to watch on TheFA.com on Monday, so make sure you return to see those.
