The FA Inter-League Cup

Southern Amateurs face island trip

The draw for the NLS Cup Second Round has been made

The holders of The FA Carlsberg National League System Cup, The Southern Amateur League, face a tough trip to Guernsey in what is arguably the tie of the Second Round.

Victory in the Channel Islands would enhance the SAL’s tag as favourites for the trophy. The draw was made a Wembley on Friday and in another intriguing tie in the Northern group, former winners the Isle of Man League have a tricky tie away to the Liverpool County Premier League.

The Second Round will see nine non-National League System competitions line up, emphasising the strength of lower league football through the Country.

The Jersey Combination make up a trio of Island leagues through to the last 16, but they will be wary of their trip to Essex to face an Olympian League side that ran up a competition record score last Saturday when they defeated the Worthing & District League 9-2.

Another interesting tie is the Yorkshire derby with the West Riding County Amateur League playing hosts to the Yorkshire Old Boys League.

Spare a thought, however, for the Cambridgeshire County League who must make a third successive away trip with a visit to the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League after games in Sunderland in the Preliminary Round and Teesside in the First Round.
