The FA Inter-League Cup

Rihoy treble sends SAL crashing

Channel Islanders dump out holders with late winner

Guernsey Senior County League 3-2 Southern Amateur League
The FA National League System Cup
Second Round
Saturday 21 November 2009

FA National League System Cup holders, the Southern Amateur League, crashed out of the competition at the Second Round stage, going down to an 89th minute goal in Guernsey on Saturday.

The SAL took the lead just before the break through Alex Ewin only for Dave Rihoy to equalise two minutes into the second half for the Guernsey Senior County League. Then Rihoy put the home side ahead six minutes later.

Their lead lasted only nine minutes until Nick Haynes brought the scores level on 61 minutes. However, with the game seeming destined for extra time, Rihoy popped to snatch victory with his and the Islanders third goal.

Guernsey, losing Semi-Finalists in 2006, will now have high hopes of going one step further and reaching the Final with the carrot of qualification for next season's UEFA Regions Cup dangling before them.
