The Guernsey Senior County League beat the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 to win The FA National League System Cup final at the Track in St Sampson on Saturday night in front of a big patriotic crowd.
Goals from Glyn Dyer, Dave Rihoy, Dominic Heaume, Matt Drillot and Ross Allen saw the Islanders triumph to not only lift the trophy but also qualify to represent England in the 2010/2011 UEFA Regions Cup, where they will travel to Croatia to face the amateur champions on Croatia, Turkey and Wales in the Preliminary Round Group 1.
The visitors shocked the home crowd when they took the lead in the 12th minute when David Cooney found himself totally unmarked to head home from six yards out.
However, as the half worn on the home side regained the upper hand and it was no surprise when they equalised on 32 minutes when Dyer slotted home from a wide angle. The hosts went 2-1 up in the 44th minute when Rihoy fired home from the edge of the box from a superb set piece move but Cooney headed home on the hour to level it.
With The Final creeping towards extra time, Heaume fired home on 82 minutes before Drillot added a fourth and then Allen coolly lobbed into the net from the edge of the area.
Guernsey captain Sam Cochrane said: "We've had a brilliant journey in this tournament, we've played really well.
"It's the biggest prize in amateur football and we're there - it's unbelievable."
