Manchester City
25. Joe Hart - One fantastic save at 0-0 to deny Kenwyne Jones proved crucial in the end, on what was a largely quiet afternoon for the England ‘keeper otherwise.
4. Vincent Kompany - The big Belgian stood firm when needed, particularly with Stoke’s threat from set-pieces and throw-ins. Tested Thomas Sorensen with a shot in the first half.
19. Joleon Lescott - A strong performance from the England man, who was rarely out-muscled or beaten at the back.
2. Micah Richards - Had his hands full in keeping Matthew Etherington under wraps, which he did well, but he was restricted in his attacking moments.
13. Aleksandar Kolorov - Got himself forward on several occasions, but the Serbian was often wasteful with his final ball or shot.
34. Nigel De Jong - A typical performance from the Dutchman, who patrolled the midfield with authority whilst always offering himself as an outlet for the ball.
18. Gareth Barry - The England midfielder linked play well, but was sacrificed in the second half as Roberto Mancini brought on Adam Johnson to try and break the deadlock.
42. Yaya Toure - Never stopped running all afternoon and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions before finally breaking the deadlock.
21. David Silva - A lively performance from the Spaniard, who always looked like he could be the catalyst for a City goal. Sometimes, he was outmuscled by the Stoke defence but never stopped playing.
32. Carlos Tevez - A tireless performance from the City skipper, who was unlucky not to score in the first-half.
45. Mario Balotelli - A great game from the Italian. He offered good support to Tevez and was a general menace to the Stoke defence as he played on the left-hand side of the attack. Unfortunate not to score with one first-half effort.
Substitutes:
11. Adam Johnson - Gave Stoke’s Marc Wilson a few more things to think about after his introduction two minutes before the goal.
5. Pablo Zabaleta - A late substitution for skipper Tevez, as City looked to shore things up at the back.
24. Patrick Vieira - One vital interception in the area seconds after he came on made his introduction worthwhile for the Blues.
Stoke City
29. Thomas Sorensen - Kept his side in it during the first half, when he made a string of good saves. Most notable was his superb tip around the post to deny Mario Balotelli.
4. Robert Huth - A solid display from the big German defender, particularly in the first half when he seemed to single-handedly keep City at bay with a string of blocks and challenges.
6. Glenn Whelan - Helped his defence out when required, but was often by-passed in midfield.
9. Kenwyne Jones - Led the line well, but wasn’t firing in front of goal today. One wayward first-half shot troubled the corner flag more than the goal. He then missed a guilt-edged chance in the second half.
12. Marc Wilson - Did a steady job at left-back. Rarely beaten.
16. Jermaine Pennant - A constant thorn in Manchester City's side with his skill and pace on the right flank and a danger from set plays, but it just didn’t come off for him on this occasion.
17. Ryan Shawcross - Had his work cut out with the movement and work-rate of Tevez, but showed a good attitude to try and drive his team on.
19. Jonathan Walters - No repeat of the Semi-Final joy for the forward today as he was largely snuffed out by the City defence.
24. Rory Delap - A perennial hard worker, but offered little to this game aside from his long throw-in.
26. Matthew Etherington - Did a good job for the team in his hour on the field, but never really looked fit enough to stretch the City defence as much as he can.
28. Andy Wilkinson - A dogged display at right back, when often confronted by the lively Balotelli.
Substitutes:
18. Dean Whitehead - Brought on to replace Etherington, which was always going to be a tough act.
22. John Carew - Big man thrown on with ten minutes to go as Stoke chased an equaliser.
14. Danny Pugh - A last throw of the dice for Pulis, as he made his final substitution of the game.
