Nikita Parris says Manchester City want to create a dynasty in the women’s game.

Nick Cushing’s side won their maiden FA WSL 1 crown on Sunday and they could make it a league and cup double if they see off Birmingham City in Sunday’s Continental Tyres Cup Final.

And England youngster Parris said City have the potential to dominate the women’s football landscape.

She explained: “We want to write a new chapter for women’s football.

“We want people to associate Manchester City with women’s football and success which has been the case with Arsenal for so many years.

“Arsenal dominated for so long and that is our aim now. We want to set a new benchmark and we are all hungry for success.”

City put themselves on the map by beating Arsenal in the 2014 Conti Cup showpiece and it is subsequently a competition which means a lot to everyone at the Academy Stadium.

Parris said: “We wanted to get to the Conti Cup Final at the start of the season. It was the first trophy this club won so it is a special competition for everyone at City.

“This is the trophy that made City realise they could compete against the best and beat the best. It really set us up for the following season when we chased Chelsea all the way in the league. It didn’t quite happen but this year we have let Chelsea and all the other teams chase us.

“I think that all stems back from the Conti Cup win in 2014 and the belief that gave the whole club.”

Parris set City on their way in this season’s competition by bagging a hat-trick in the 8-0 win over Aston Villa in round one.

And the 22-year-old believes Birmingham will prove stubborn opponents at the weekend.

She added: “Defensively they are very strong and they have made a couple of good signings to help them in attack so it will be really tough to break them down.

“We’ll have to make the most of the space we do get. Everyone knows they will be hard to beat and they will cause us problems up top.”

Tickets for The Final are priced £7 for adults and £3 for concessions.

A family ticket (two adults and two children) is available at £15 and group booking and Charter Standard discounts apply.
