England's Steph Houghton and Fara Williams collect MBEs

England pair Steph Houghton and Fara Williams were at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to collect their MBE awards.

Lionesses captain Houghton and England’s most-capped player Williams were named among football’s representatives for the 2016 New Year Honours List in January.

And the duo, who were key members of the England team which finished in third place at last summer’s Women’s World Cup in Canada, received their investitures from Princess Anne at the Palace on Wednesday.

Other well-known figures from football to be recognised included FA director and FA Inclusion Advisory Board chair Heather Rabbatts who was made a Dame for services to football and equality.

Sports broadcaster and Women in Football member Jacqui Oatley, who fronted the BBC’s coverage of last summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and is currently working for ITV at Euro 2016 in France, also receives an MBE for services to broadcasting and diversity in sport.
