Jamie Vardy celebrates after scoring for an 11th consecutive Premier League match

Jamie Vardy netted his 11th goal in as many games as the England man broke Ruud van Nistlerooy’s Premier League record and helped Leicester to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Vardy scored after 24 minutes to break the record for goals in consecutive games but the Foxes couldn’t hold on for the win.

Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick, Ashley Young and England skipper Wayne Rooney all lined up for United but it was Bastian Schweinsteiger who came to the rescue for the Red Devils.

That result means Manchester City end Saturday on top of the table after they saw off Southampton 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Joe Hart was absent from the City goal with a hamstring injury but Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph both featured for the hosts with the latter putting them 2-0 ahead after Kevin de Bruyne’s opener.

Ryan Bertrand and James Ward-Prowse both lined up for the Saints but Shane Long’s 50th-minute goal meant little as Aleksandar Kolarov sealed the points for the Citizens.

Elsewhere Jack Butland conceded two as Sunderland saw off Stoke and Wilfried Zaha netted twice for Crystal Palace in a 5-1 win over Newcastle.

And Ross Barkley thought he had given Everton a dramatic win over Bournemouth with his late effort only for Junior Stanislas to level things in a 3-3 thriller.

In the Championship on-loan Ainsley Maitland-Niles played 84 minutes as Ipswich comfortably saw off Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the day’s early kick-off.

Brighton stay top after they beat a Birmingham side featuring Demarai Gray 2-1 and Under-20s star Chris Long helped Burnley to a 2-2 draw at Cardiff.

And Ben Osborn played the full 90 as Nottingham Forest beat Reading 3-1.

In League One on-loan Ben Pearson featured as Barnsley drew 1-1 with Sheffield United and Adam Armstrong kept up his impressive form at Coventry as he scored in a 2-2 draw with Doncaster.
